Department of Energy Standards
Impact HVAC Equipment Standards

Effective October 1, 2005, Department of Energy standards require all new residential tract homes be built with 13 SEER or higher equipment.

New Projects as of October 1, 2005:

All new projects with permits issued after Oct. 1, 2005 will be required to use the new Title 24 requirements, which include:
            - A minimum of 13 SEER equipment
            - Duct testing and TXV requirements
            - Larger physical space requirements
              for new (larger) unit

Existing Projects:

Any existing projects can continue to use current equipment, assuming it is available and permits have been pulled for those specific jobs.


* Beginning January 23, 2006, HVAC manufacturers will only manufacture 13 SEER or higher units *

Improved Equipment Sizing
Westpac has chosen to implement ACCA Manual J / Manual D sizing on every builder plan. Using ACCA calculations will result in proper room by room sizing on all homes, which will translate into improved comfort throughout the entire home. Manual J / Manual D is available on all new home plans and can be used to meet Energy Star requirements automatically!
